A span is earned inches, not a chart.

Wrist-to-floor posters assume a bottom that lives under the ball at sea level. Grand Valley players often bottom forward, especially on fast morning greens with orchard wind. We stamp the bottom first. Inches come second. Hang comes third, because hang changes when length changes.

We will not sell a mallet as a personality until the ruler has spoken. A pretty alignment line on a length that misses the bottom is a costume.
